Delaire Graff Lodge and Spa - Stellenbosch

High up on the pass between Stellenbosch and Franschloek, Delaire has lodges with double-height ceilings, glass-fronted bedrooms and decks with heated plunge pools. Views stretch over vineyards and olive groves to Table Mountain beyond, or across the Banghoek Valley. Design elements combine classic Cape Dutch (gables and thatch) with a generous dose of French flair (courtesy of architect Pierre Bories) and British creativity (David Collins did the interiors).

Owner Laurence Graff's collection of South African art features throughout, including striking sculptures by Deborah Bell and paintings by young Xhosa artist Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi in the lobby.

The spa uses products by Swiss Perfection; Jo Malone goodies up the luxe factor in the guest bathrooms.

At the restaurant, Indochine, chef Chistiaan Campbell creates daily-changing menus that often depend on what's ripe in his greenhouse.
